Bowflex TreadClimber TC5000 Review

I recently visited a gym that was new to me and saw an unusual piece of equipment there. It was an interesting experience using it and I want to share it with you. So, I tested the Bowflex TreadClimber TC5000. This machine is over five years old, you’re unlikely to find it on sale. But I’ll tell you why it’s interesting.

It is a hybrid of a treadmill and an elliptical trainer. Its lower part consists of two movable platforms with separate straps. The dimensions are quite compact, so this equipment does not require significant space. Let’s look at the main characteristics of the TC5000:

Key Features

Dimensions Length 46 in. / Width 28.5 in. / Height 55.25 in.
Weight 185 lbs.
Max Weight Capacity 300 lbs
Speed 0.7 to 4.0 mph
Speed Increments: 0.1 mph
Workout Resistance Levels 1 to 12
Belt (each) 7.75 in. x 38.5 in.
Fram Powder-coated steel

The frame is quite sturdy. All parts are made of quality materials. Perhaps since the treadmill is mounted on the Machine Mat, it is stable. It is quite comfortable to exercise despite its compact size.

The upper part looks traditional for a treadmill. Five LCDs show all-important training indicators. The control does not cause any questions. Some of the already familiar features of more modern treadmills are missing, but that doesn’t pose a problem for your workout. You can hold on to the side handrails. I initially did so, as the first few minutes were very unaccustomed to training.

Is the TreadClimber better than the elliptical trainer?

The manufacturer tried to replicate the movement we make when we walk or jog uphill. We spend more effort on it. The parameters of the TC5000 will not allow for more speed. For many people, this may be a disadvantage. But you are experiencing a different type of exertion.

Your joints are less stressed and less worn out. Your workout is quite energy-intensive. You can also adjust your load level, which allows you to train in intervals and keep your optimal heart rate zone. It can be tracked on the display, as well as the number of calories burned and the distance covered. Record and regularly improve your performance.

Workout with the Bowflex TreadClimber TC5000

Example 15 Minute Interval Workout Routing with this series of equipment

  • 2 minute warm up (intensity = 3-4)
  • 1 minute high interval (intensity = 5-6 for beginners, 7-10 for advanced)
  • 1 minute low interval (intensity = 3-4)
  • Repeat the high and low intervals 5 more times
  • 1 minute cool down (intensity = 2-3)

PROS:

  • Efficiency and comfort. I felt the strain on all my muscles. I especially liked the fact that my muscles were sore, but there was no discomfort in my knee, which I periodically feel after squats and jogging. You can gently increase the load and intensity.
  • Compactness. The exerciser takes up minimal space. If there was an option to purchase it for my garage gym, I would gladly do so. High stability is an added benefit.
  • Quiet operation. The TreadClimber doesn’t make any noise, the motor is virtually inaudible.
  • Simple but clear display. Nothing out of the ordinary, but all the necessary indicators are available.

CONS:

  • The maximum speed is suitable for intensive walking. For fans of active jogging, this equipment is not suitable.
  • A rather large weight makes it difficult to move the equipment. In the gym, it is not a problem, but for home use, it will be a difficulty.
  • The control panel in comparison with the current treadmills is outdated. Not all of the controls are convenient.
  • It is difficult to find such equipment on sale, it is discontinued.

Total

The Bowflex TreadClimber TC5000 is an interesting alternative to traditional cardio machines. At the moment there are more modern analogs with more functionality. I recommend trying this kind of equipment if it is found in the gyms where you train. This gives an atypical load for your muscles, which stimulates progress and allows you to actively develop.
